DUBAI INFORMATION

Dubai is both the name of a city and one of the seven emirates that today gives us the country United Arab Emirates. The country is located on the Arabian Peninsula and has about 9 million inhabitants. Duabi is located in the northernmost part of the emirate and has about 2 million inhabitants. It is by far the largest city in the United Arab Emirates in both surface and inhabitants. Dubai is famous for its tall skyscrapers and extremely hot climate, but there is much more to experience! The temperature of both the air and water in Dubai lever lets you down. In the air it´s between 20-45 degrees and the water is between 20-30 degrees.

A visit to the old part of a museum that takes up most of the development, sit in neighborhoods with spicetrades, drink a cup of tea and feel how the people around you are friendly, open and incredibly service minded. Do not forget then the gold market, an experience to wander around, see everything that they have to offer and remember to ask very often about what goods that are avalible for sale.

History

The Emirate of Dubai was established in 1833 when the old dynasty Al Maktoum with company chose to settle on the western side of the bay of Khor Dubai at a small fishing village called Bur Duabi. Then the emirate would belong to the British colony and the importance of the emirate grew as a politic favoring transit traffic and trade for the middle east. When they found oil in the 1960s, Dubai invested a part of the multi revenues in new ports, airport and other important infrastructure and Duabi later became the leading commercial city in the region, which formerly belonged to Abu Dhabi. 1971, when the country Uniting Arab Emirates and Dubai were given the right to appoint Vice President and Prime Minister of the Parliament.

Dubai Skiing

In the mood for skiing when it's 40 degrees in the air? No problem, you're in Dubai! It has the world's largest indoor ski resort, with room for 1,500 people at the same time. Ski Dubai offers 5 ski runs, the longest is 400 meters long. You can ski, snowboard and ride sledge. A panel in the ceiling gives you a clear blue sky that gives you the illusion that you are outdoors in real snow. In order to get the ultimate experience, they produced 30 tons of snow every night. Clothes and equipment are included in the price and you can also hire a trainer.

Dubai Airport

Getting to Dubai by air from Sweden is easy. There are direct flights from Stockholm and Copenhagen (best travel option for you in southern Sweden.) Gothenburg also offers flights to Dubai, but then you have to count on a stopover. Of course are there are also flights from Copenhagen and Stockholm with stopovers for those who wish. The airport of Dubai is a modern airport and is located just 30 minutes by car from downtown Dubai. At the airport, it is also possible to rent a car, get bustransfer and more.

Burj Khalifa

Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in Dubai. Burj Dubai, the skyscrapers name during the construction, is currently the world's tallest building, with its 828 meters. The statley skyscraper was completed in 2010 and include 164 floors, 57 elevators and a vantage point on the 124th floor, 452 meter above the ground. To book ticket online costs about 220 swedish krones (ca 25 euro) and it is an attraction we at The Nordic Lounge really recommend. The entire building went ona cost about $ 400 billion.

In Dubai and the surrounding area, there is everything for everyone! Dubai Mall, Emirates Mall, all cozy little shops, a dream for those who like shopping.

Golf courses are there plenty of and in different difficulty levels, so why not combine a conference trip to play on any of them?

Take a swim both inside and outside, good restaurants, nice hotel bars, or perhaps a boat ride in the evening?
